MER-C Indonesia Official Statement Condemnation of the Killing of Dr. Marwan Al Sultan Director of Indonesia Hospital, North Gaza, Palestine

On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, MER-C Indonesia received the devastating news of the death of our esteemed colleague, Dr. Marwan Al Sultan—a consultant in interventional cardiology and the Director of Indonesia Hospital in North Gaza. He, along with his wife and children, was killed in a direct aerial bombardment on their temporary residence in northern Gaza. Since the onset of the 2023 Gaza genocide, Dr. Al Sultan relentlessly led Indonesia Hospital under grave circumstances, providing essential medical services to the Palestinian people despite the constant threat of Israeli airstrikes and severe resource limitations. After the hospital blockade in December 2024, which forced him out of the facility, he remained in northern Gaza and returned to reactive operations during the January 2025 ceasefire. Known for his openness and cooperative spirit, Dr. Al Sultan worked closely with numerous international humanitarian teams serving in northern Gaza, including those from the UK, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Canada, and Morocco. Under his leadership, Indonesia Hospital became a vital hub for healthcare—not a military target as falsely accused by Israeli narratives. Between January and March 2025, MER-C Indonesia’s EMT team collaborated directly with Dr. Al Sultan in reviving emergency services and restoring full hospital operations. He was known for his candor, spontaneity, and firm leadership—traits that shaped daily hospital management meetings, often filled with rigorous debates and always ending with camaraderie over coffee and shared meals. The killing of Dr. Marwan Al Sultan and his family is a flagrant violation of humanitarian principles and a grave act of injustice that must be held accountable. This is a day of mourning for all of humanity. We refuse to remain silent. Jakarta, July 2, 2025MER-C Indonesia More Info https://www.instagram.com/p/DLo9K32zjSx/?img_index=1
