MER-C Medical Team for Kelud still on Mission
Yogyakarta – After assessment team finished their mission, Wednesday midnight (19/2), a team of MER-C medical volunteers from Yogyakarta and Solo was back on their track to Kelud mountain. Team consisting medical doctor, young medical doctor and medical student arrived at Laharpahang, Puncuk Village, Kediri Regency on Thursday morning (20/2). Laharpahang Puncuk village was close enough to Kelud mountain, in a radius of 6 kilometers therefore the impact of eruption was highly visible in this village, lots of roofs from villagers houses have been destroyed. After taking a rest, MER-C’s team member then was ready to conduct medical assistance for Kelud’s eruption victims by opening two health posts. In addition to providing medical assistance, MER-C team also distributed donations to the villagers. The number of villagers who seek for medical treatment reached 93 people. Based on the information of the team members, the area surrounding has been seen clear and safe but still on alert status, waiting for evaluation’s result on this Thursday night that would determine the next status of the mountain. In the meantime, most victims in the region were still in need of tiles or building materials, and clean water.
MER-C Acts in Kelud Tragedy
Jakarta – February 14, 2014. MER-C acts to provide humanitarian aid in medical emergency following Kelud mountain eruption in East Java. The aid for Kelud mountain victims now can be transferred to Humanitarian-Disaster Account : BCA, Kwitang branch 686.0099339 and BSM, Salemba branch 701.5658899 on behalf of Medical Emergency Rescue Committee.
MER-C Joins Indonesian National Radio Station (RRI) for Jakarta Cares for Disaster Social Event
Jakarta – On Sunday, January 26, 2014, MER-C together with Indonesian National Radio Station (RRI), invited many parties who are also concerned including BRI, PT Dexa Medika, PT Kalbe Farma to hold a social event for flood victims in Jakarta. The event started from 10 am until its completion. MER-C sent 1 pediatrics, 3 General Practitioners, 5 Nurses and 2 Non-Medical Staffs by using 2 vehicles, that were one operational vehicle and one ambulance. From MER-C headquarter, the team gathered at RRI Medan Merdeka Barat to stay in touch at first with RRI Top Management and other cooperation partners. Of the meeting point, all team departed with a convoy of vehicles, heading to RRI Cares for Flood point, at Gg. Mesjid I, Kp Melayu Besar, Kebon Baru, Tebet, South Jakarta. It was recorded that there were 118 patients at the flood point.
MER-C Examines Families’ Health of Indonesian Hospital Volunteers
Wonogiri – On January 21-22, 2014, dr Tonggo Meaty Fransisca, accompanied by dr Ambar of MER-C Solo branch, conducted examination on families’ health from the seven volunteers of Indonesian Hospital, that have been staying in Wonogiri. Apart from the examination, MER-C also informed that, Inshallah, volunteers will soon return home to meet their families that have been left for more than a year long. Meanwhile, on January 22, 2014, dr Anggraini SpPD and Islamiyah Samaun conducted health examination to the family of Tata Lukita, a volunteer of Indonesian Hospital, in Ciwidey.
MER-C Dispatches Medical Team to Manado
Jakarta – As much as four MER-C volunteers went to Manado to delivered medical assistance to the victims of floods and land slide that hit the area. The team is made of four medical volunteers, where some of them are doctors from Makassar, Jakarta and Mataram. In Manado, the team will coordinate with institutions handling local natural disaster and public health, as well as visiting the areas worst hit that highly need medical help. “The team is scheduled to stay for one week? But this will depend on the condition of the field and the team’s assessment,” explained dr. Arief Rachman, one of MER-C presidium.
